Narcissism in a Brother or Sister
A narcissistic brother or sister can be very damaging to your self esteem! Living with insults and arrogance for years while you are growing up does not give you a thick skin or toughen you up.1 It usually works the other way around and you will become less and less immune over time to them treating you as inferior and you will end up believing at least some of their lies.
If you are in this situation it may be that at least one of your parents was narcissistic and/or codependent and so you most likely lacked a healthy role model for learning how to regulate and manage your emotions1. This will make it likely that you could suffer from codependence and wind up attracting other narcissistic people and relationships into your life.
“When will the pain and abuse ever end?”, you may well ask. I hope we have that answer to that for you today. It is vital that you begin to learn to stand up for yourself and improve your inner self talk. Our program is not specifically for dealing with a sibling but as these disorders tend to run in families and influence the type of partner you will attract, improving your emotional intelligence1 from our steps and exercises will not only help you deal with your brother or sister but will very likely help you in all areas of your life. A dysfunctional family can only be repaired one member at a time, who will it start with? Will it be you? I very much hope so as I know that life has so much more to offer you than where you are now.
