Narcissism In a Parent
Narcissism runs in families and the children of a parent with NPD will usually grow up either narcissistic or codependent (like either one of their parents). The movie “Muriel’s Wedding” that this clip above is taken from is a good one to show how narcissism develops in a child in reaction to a narcissistic parent. It also shows the grief and tragedy this disorder can cause while also having a somewhat happy ending; offering some hope for anyone living with this disorder. It is also a great example of the kind of tragedy it can unfortunately take to ‘wake up’ someone with narcissistic tendencies.
“No more lies” is the great strengthening decision6 we are left with at the end of this movie and would be a great description of the change that has occurred with Steve.
