Narcissism In Your Child
Our ebooks are written primarily for partners of people with narcissistic tendencies but this was first modified from parent training2 and so a lot of what we offer will help you to help your child, while also helping you understand their behaviour better.
Most children go through a narcissistic stage and it is important as parents that we help them mature and move beyond this.
Lying or acting charming and manipulative to get out of trouble or to get your own way is something children need to learn will not work, and parents need to learn to set boundaries firmly but in a calm and loving way.3
Ultimatums and threats may work in the short term, but only at the cost of the relationship, especially if there are no strong bonds of attachment.2
Children need to learn about life from adults and not other children and the importance of ‘friendship’ in childhood is often vastly overplayed.2 Mentoring can be extremely useful, especially when children are older, the benefits that can be gained form someone who is the same sex as a child but older and able to demonstrate useful life skills and values cannot be over emphasized.
